The Brewster Buffalo was designed in the late 1930s as the US Navy's first monoplane carrier-borne fighter aircraft. While it saw limited front-line success with US and Commonwealth forces early in World War II, the export variant—designated B-239—achieved legendary status in the hands of the Finnish Air Force (Ilmavoimat) during the Continuation War (1941–1944).
